SCHOOL AND RECTORY

Jewett Hall and 1st School, 1949

With reconstruction of the church underway in 1948, thoughts turned to the establishment of a school. After 21 years without a school, the first classes were held in September 1949 in Jewett Hall, for Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.

First School - 1951

Forty-five students enrolled and were taught by the Sisters of Mercy.

Sisters Bernardine and Janet conducted classes the first year and were joined by Mrs. Schmidt the 2nd year. A grade and staff were added each year until eight grades were taught.

In 1954 the first section of our new school was built with 122 pupils attending.

In 1957 the second section of the school was added, doubling its size. Enrollment reached 289 in the late fifties. In 1974 Grades 7 and 8 were discontinued and enrollment currently stands at almost 300.

With the addition to the school, the original rectory was torn down and a new one built in 1958.
